I have been using emacs (25.1.1 IIRC) on Linux for a long time, but now I am trying to use it on a new MacBook. In my .emacs file I map many common functions (opening and saving files, etc.) to the function keys on the keyboard. When I start emacs, it doesn't seem to read my .emacs file, and the function keys don't respond properly. Any suggestions? Thanks.

My emacs (Version 25.1) recognizes the function keys without
problem. You are aware that you need to press [fn] + [function key] in
the default configuration on a Mac though? You can change this in the
System Preferences.
