Emacs spell checker on Mac

Hi,

I've found that using spell checker within Emacs.app is painfully slow on a Mac computer. Does anyone have similar problems? Anyone knows how to fix this? Thanks.

I'm using Mac 10.5 and emacs 23.4.1.

I'm using Mac 10.7.2 and emacs 24.1.50 and spell checker use aspell, anything runs ok.maybe the newest emacs version is a good choice.
