csv mode to align cells in columns?

I don't need spreadsheet functionality (like entering of formulas or calculations), merely aligning of cells in columns. the old csv mode by francis wright is from 2004 and starts with the text that it won't work with newer emacs versions (i.e., beyond emacs 21).

is there something that does this?

there is now a csv-mode, which is a package that can be installed in emacs 24, which does exactly what I wanted it to do.
