Gnus: gnus-select-method versus gnus-secondary-select-methods

If you want to configure Gnus to read messages from multiple sources, is
there any reason to define one source with the variable
gnus-select-method and additional sources with
gnus-secondary-select-methods instead of defining all sources in
gnus-secondary-select-methods and leaving gnus-select-method undefined?
